Use consistent, unique SKUs across your store and warehouse product file. Review variants, bundles and barcode requirements before receiving inventory or connecting a new channel.
Agree which system changes warehouse stock and which locations can fulfill orders. Confirm settings against reconciled inventory before enabling updates to the storefront.
Check order import, stock availability, packing instructions and shipment updates together. Include a cancellation or edited order so the team knows where manual review is needed.
Details that make the difference
Review the products you intend to send to the warehouse and identify every sellable variation. A size, color or pack quantity that needs to be picked separately needs a clear identifier. Bring product dimensions, unit weights and the relationship between individual components and bundles. Resolve duplicate or ambiguous SKUs before the receiving team has to make a judgment from a product title or photograph alone.
FHU’s public Shopify connection instructions describe linking the store and matching imported products by SKU. They also call for checking warehouse inventory before allowing that system to update Shopify stock. Use the current connection guide with the implementation team and verify the settings for your store; an instruction page does not establish that your particular catalog or app combination has already passed testing.
Shopify can track inventory at locations and use fulfillment settings to determine where orders go. Map the location representing your FHU stock separately from a retail store, another provider or inventory held elsewhere. Review the stock assigned to each location, the channels allowed to sell it and the routing rules. A location displayed in an admin screen is not evidence that goods have arrived and are ready to ship.
FHU’s communication guide describes the warehouse platform as the authority for warehouse inventory changes, with updates sent to connected stores. Do not assume that editing a Shopify quantity changes the warehouse count. Agree how to handle counts, receiving discrepancies, holds and overselling risks. Reconcile the starting position before cutover and identify who can resolve a mismatch between systems.
Decide which orders should import, when they can be released and which conditions require review. Use representative examples from your store: an address change, a payment issue, a cancellation, a multi-item order and an unavailable SKU. Record where the change originates and how the warehouse learns about it. Testing these cases is more useful than relying only on a successful ordinary order.
The FHU communication guide lists settings for selected order and product updates, and notes limits on how some line-item changes flow back to Shopify. Review those limits with the team before changing an order already in progress. Specify who approves an exception and how customer support sees the outcome. Avoid promising that every edit is instantaneous or that every app action will synchronize in both directions.
Share the intended packing presentation, branded materials, inserts and any subscription or bundle requirements. Agree a sample and identify which version applies to each order group. Confirm separately scoped kitting, customization or specialist handling before treating it as a standard inclusion. The connected order must contain enough information for the warehouse to follow the agreed instruction consistently.
Returns need an identification method, inspection criteria and a disposition owner. Decide what can return to sellable stock and what requires review or additional work. Keep a warehouse receipt separate from the customer-service decision to refund or exchange. Confirm the return workflow, records and charges with the team so a store action does not stand in for physical inspection of the product.
If you are changing providers, list the orders still assigned to the previous warehouse and decide who will finish each one. Reconcile inventory, open returns and outstanding receipts before updating routing. Set a handoff window that reflects the actual receiving and connection work. Do not send the same live order to two providers to test which integration is faster.
Start with representative orders whose expected result is known. Confirm the selected SKU, available quantity, packing instruction, shipping service and tracking update. Keep a record of any mismatch and its resolution before expanding the flow. A practical launch plan includes a recovery owner and a way to hold new releases while an issue is investigated, without inventing a guaranteed implementation duration.
From inquiry to an agreed launch
Bring the Shopify store details, catalog, monthly order range, sales channels and target launch. Identify bundles, subscription apps and unusual handling early.
Confirm locations, receiving, packing, returns, exception ownership and the complete quote. Separate warehouse services from carrier and platform charges.
Check SKUs and available inventory, then review the documented connection and routing settings with the implementation team. Preserve the current fulfillment handoff until the new flow is checked.
Test routine and exception cases, confirm shipment updates and record unresolved issues. Expand only after the agreed launch checks are satisfied.
Before your first conversation
Bring a recent order export, product and variant list, current fulfillment locations, packaging requirements and known apps that affect orders. Include the intended launch date and any stock already committed to another provider.
Use our published pricing tools to explore components, then confirm the complete scope in an itemized proposal. Our fulfillment planning guides can help you prepare the questions.

FHU publishes connection instructions for Shopify and Shopify Plus. The implementation team should confirm the settings and test the actual store, catalog and operating requirements before live order release.
FHU’s documented setup uses the warehouse platform for warehouse inventory changes and sends updates to connected stores. Confirm the location mapping and settings against reconciled stock before enabling the flow.
Merchant-fulfilled channels can be planned around the agreed warehouse inventory and allocation rules. Stock stored in Amazon FBA remains separate. Confirm each channel and exception during setup.
Do not assume that every edit synchronizes both ways. Review the documented settings and limitations, and test changes or cancellations against your store’s actual workflow.
Include receiving, storage, order handling, packaging, returns, special work and carrier assumptions. Bring monthly orders, items per order and product dimensions so the proposal reflects your operation.
